The story

Brothers Sonu and Monu's regular pranks worry their father. However, their lives take a turn when they fall in love and go to great lengths to impress the girls' father.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated studio color with sunlit Mumbai-style sets, glossy costumes and broad, theatrical staging: this is a 1999 Bollywood comedy shot for maximum visual cheer, with fast cuts, mobile camera sweeps and playful slapstick framing rather than anything quiet or contemplative. The sound is a buoyant mix of upbeat Hindi film songs, bouncy dance numbers and cartoonish comic stingers, and the mood is light, giddy and mischievous, the kind of warm chaos that suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a group watch with snacks, or a silly comfort rewatch. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with the energy rising through each set piece; the emotional arcs are gentle and romantic, centred on two goofy brothers who stumble into love and scramble to win over a suspicious father. Violence is slapstick-level and comic, with chases and brawls played for laughs rather than harm, and there is no gore, no real menace and only light romantic physicality. It suits viewers who want an exuberant, feel-good escape with music, pratfalls and a happy ending, and who are happy with broad, unapologetically over-the-top humour.
