The story

A blunt, abrasive and yet oddly compassionate Jagdishwar Mishra aka Jolly, a small-time struggling lawyer who moves from Kanpur to the city of Nawabs to pursue his dream of becoming a big-time lawyer.

What it’s like

Bright, crowded frames of Lucknow courtrooms and bustling chowk streets, shot in saturated colour with broad, cheerful lighting and plenty of wide shots that let the chaos breathe. Corridors overflow with clerks, touts, and litigants, and the camera tends to stay close to the performers as they bounce off one another, with quick cuts for comic beats. The sound is a lively mix of Hindi film songs, brass-tinged swells, and punchy comic stings, with courtroom arguments delivered at full volume. The vibe is breezy and boisterous, a crowd-pleaser that moves between slapstick and sharp satire, with a serious undercurrent about a case involving police misconduct that never fully dampens the mood. The pacing is brisk and the emotional register warm and cheeky, following a brash, hot-headed lawyer who grows softer as the story goes on. Intensity is low: some crude jokes, a few brief scuffles and shouting matches, and no gore. It suits a lively weekend evening or a comfort watch with friends, and is best for viewers who enjoy Bollywood-style courtroom comedy with heart and a lot of noise.
