The story

Set in 1956, Reiji is investigating a series of strange crimes that revolve arround an all-female academy, which may be involved with the murder that killed his wife. Also, he meets Toko Kuchiki, a strange girl who hires Reiji for the job to "find her real self".

What it’s like

Muted, rain-dimmed Tokyo in 1956: sepia-leaning backdrops of tenement streets, smoky cafés, and gaslit corridors, with character portraits sliding in over them in a restrained palette of greys, deep reds and pale skin. Long stretches are text on a still frame, so the rhythm is slow and deliberate, punctuated by abrupt, unsettling cuts when a clue lands. The soundscape leans on sparse, melancholy piano and ambient drones, with silence used to build dread. The tone is cold and noir-inflected, a lonely detective's mood sliding into paranoia, with a mystery that stays uneasy from start to finish. It suits a rainy evening alone, a slow playthrough across several sittings, or a night when you want atmosphere over action. Intensity is high: there is graphic gore and violence, frequent disturbing imagery, and adult sexual content in some scenes, all of which land heavily rather than as spectacle. It is not gentle. It is for people who want a dark period mystery in visual novel form, with multiple endings and a heavy, haunted atmosphere, and who are comfortable with mature material.
