The story

How far would you go to bring someone back from the dead? Discover the depths that some will go to in this horror-adventure game. Set in Honjo, Tokyo's Sumida ward during the Showa period (1926-89), this is the unsettling tale of those with the power to curse, derived from the gruesome real world urban legends: "The Seven Mysteries of Honjo." Follow the cursed seven as they embark on a supernatural ordeal over a three-day period to realise their desperate hopes and dreams.

What it’s like

Muted, hand-painted 2D backdrops of Showa-era streets, back alleys and crumbling shrines, lit in dusky greys, faded ochres and the occasional sickly red, with character sprites that sit in the frame like pages from a illustrated case file. Its sound is a restrained, melancholy score of plucked strings and soft piano, broken by sudden stingers and long stretches of quiet street ambience. The vibe is wistful dread: a slow-burn mystery for a late evening alone with headphones, or a rainy weekend when you want to puzzle through clues at your own pace. Play moves through clicking, examining, and solving puzzles, with branching choices that shape the outcome. Horror is mostly atmospheric and supernatural, with grisly imagery, some gore, and jump scares; violence is occasional and graphic in short bursts rather than constant, and there is no sexual content. Emotionally it stays close to grief, obsession and bargaining, following people pushed toward desperate choices. It suits players who like Japanese visual novels, folklore-based mysteries, and atmospheric investigation rather than action or combat.
