The story
When upright cop Arjun Maitra takes on Kolkata's feared don Bagha and his henchmen, he must battle a broken system and navigate bloody gang wars.
What it’s like
Gritty and rain-soaked, with Kolkata's humid, sodium-lit streets doing much of the work: crowded lanes, tea stalls, crumbling colonial facades, and night scenes lit by police jeeps' flashing red and blue and the hard glow of station fluorescents. The camera stays close and restless during confrontations, then pulls back to hold wide, sour shots of bureaucratic offices and dim interrogation rooms. The score leans on thudding percussion and tense strings that swell before shootouts, while quieter stretches let rain and traffic fill the gaps. Its vibe is tense, dusty and procedural, the kind of sustained grind that suits a long evening with the lights low. Violence is frequent and sometimes brutal, with gunfire, beatings and gang killings shown directly, though not in lingering gore; the emotional register is heavy, with corruption and moral compromise weighing on every scene. Pacing is episodic and driven, building through escalating confrontations toward a hard-earned payoff. This suits viewers who want a grounded crime thriller about one honest officer pushing against a rotten system, and who are comfortable with sustained tension and regular on-screen violence.
