The story
Kraven Kravinoff's complex relationship with his ruthless gangster father, Nikolai, starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared.
What it’s like
Muted, sun-bleached and grimy, with a palette of dust-brown, washed-out jungle green and cold steel grey, and a digital sheen that keeps the frames clean and a little airless. The camera favours wide, deliberate compositions of open savannah, rain-soaked Moscow streets and dim, ornate interiors, with patient tracking shots that let the scale of the wilderness press in on the figures moving through it. Violence is frequent and physical: stabbings, a lot of blood, hunts that end in brutal close-quarters kills, with some gore and fight choreography that lands hard rather than being stylised. The score is heavy and percussive, built on drums and low brass, so the mood stays tense and ominous, with a dark, admiring pull toward its hunter. Pacing is steady, driven by escalating set-pieces more than quiet beats, and the emotional register is grim, a sombre study of a wounded man whose obsession with his father hardens him into something feared. It suits a late-night action watch for people who like a brooding, violent antihero and don't mind a bleak, relentless tone.
