The story
Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don't know where they are—or how they got there. In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, ruthless elitists gather at a remote location to hunt humans for sport. But their master plan is about to be derailed when one of the hunted turns the tables on her pursuers.
What it’s like
Hard-edged and fast, with bright, flat daylight over cornfields and woodland clearings that makes the carnage feel more exposed than atmospheric. Craig Zobel shoots in restless handheld bursts and quick cuts, switching between the hunters' sleek, cool-toned sitting rooms and the sweaty, grimy chaos of the chase, so the satire and the violence keep tripping over each other. The score is pulsing and synthetic, with sudden silences that let a stray gunshot or a gasp land hard. Its vibe is caustic and gleeful, a mean-spirited joke that turns into a blood-spattered survival scramble. The arc follows a cast of strangers who wake up disoriented and are forced to fight for their lives, and one woman who refuses to stay prey. Intensity is high: frequent, graphic gore and brutal, bloody violence, plus sudden deaths, cruelty and sharp class-war tension, though it is more dark comedy than dread. Not gentle, and not for anyone who wants a quiet night in. It suits viewers who enjoy irreverent, politically barbed genre films and can stomach bloodshed played for laughs.
