The story
A woman answers a help wanted ad to be a housekeeper in a mysterious New York City high-rise, unaware that she is entering a community that has seen a number of disappearances over the years and may be under the grip of a Satanic cult.
What it’s like
Saturated, stylised horror-comedy with a heightened, cartoonish sheen: bold primary colours, glossy digital images, and quick, kinetic camera moves that jump between wide shots of the cramped Manhattan tower and tight, sweaty close-ups. The high-rise interiors are dressed with deliberate, slightly uncanny symmetry, and the sound design leans on thudding bass, sudden stings and clattering chaos, with a score that shifts from playful to menacing without warning. The vibe is manic, gleefully nasty and knowingly absurd, the sort of thing to watch late at night with friends when you want to be jolted and laugh at the same time. Pacing is brisk and escalating, and the tone is irreverent throughout, with the lead's stubborn resilience the emotional anchor as she navigates a building full of strangers who are not what they seem. Intensity is high: frequent graphic gore, brutal and bloody violence, cult ritual imagery, and sustained peril and fear, though the darkly comic register softens some of the horror. Not gentle. For viewers who like splattery, self-aware genre fun with a rude sense of humour and a sharp, unapologetic edge.
