The story

The Extended Cut downloadable content adds to and modifies the ending of Mass Effect 3, in response to fan feedback.

What it’s like

Sleek sci-fi interiors under cool blue-white light, with the Normandy's sterile corridors giving way to war-torn alien skylines washed in orange, ash and starlight. The Extended Cut is an ending DLC rather than a full game, so its experience is built on the existing Mass Effect 3 look: glossy, cinematic cutscenes, hushed cathedral-like space views, and a score that swells with orchestral strings and choral pulses before dropping to near silence. Its vibe is solemn, bittersweet and sweeping, with a sense of an epic reaching its last breath. Combat remains third-person cover shooting with rapid, punchy gunfire, explosions and the occasional bloody moment, but the ending sequences are contemplative, talky and emotionally heavy, leaning on dread, sacrifice and grief rather than gore. Pacing is brisk in the fights and deliberately slow in the final reflective scenes, where camera moves are measured and close. Intensity is moderate: war violence and sci-fi peril, no sexual content, and little gratuitous gore. It suits players who finished the trilogy and want a closing chapter, or anyone craving a melancholic, cinematic sci-fi send-off with a sense of consequence and a shared emotional weight.
