The story

Kurt Hectic in his snazzy suit with ribbon chute is back to save the universe. This time he is teamed with the genius Dr. Hawkins and the 6-legged gun-toting robotic dog, Max. Together they must out-sneak, out-blast and out-think their enemies as they attempt to reclaim the Earth from a vile alien menace. All three characters - Kurt, Doctor Hawkins and Max are playable, each has his own levels, powers and items and a completely different gameplay focus. Kurt is about stealth and sniping, the Doctor has a few direct attacks but also has the ability to create items and effects out of simple household objects, while Max is a cigar smoking, quad gun toting demolition squad of a dog.

What it’s like

Bright, cartoonish sci-fi with saturated primary colours, bulbous alien architecture and goofy, exaggerated character design, all rendered with a sense of playful absurdity. Sound leans on chirpy, bouncy music, squelching alien noises and cheeky one-liners, so the game feels like a Saturday-morning cartoon that has wandered into a shooter. Its vibe is zany, upbeat and irreverent, a good fit for a lively weekend afternoon or a silly comfort session when you want to laugh at yourself. Pacing shifts with each character: Kurt's levels are slower and more deliberate, with long sniper lines and careful stealth, Hawkins' sections reward tinkering and lateral thinking with puzzles, and Max's demolition romps are fast, loud and messy. Emotionally it stays light, with brief bursts of danger and a steady undercurrent of gags. Violence is cartoonish and frequent: enemies blow up in bursts of colour, you die often and comically, and there is no realistic gore, though the shooting and explosions are constant. Expect plenty of noise and chaos rather than real menace. It suits players who enjoy quirky, mechanically varied action, classic run-and-gun fans, and anyone who wants a stylised, tongue-in-cheek adventure with a dog that smokes cigars.
