The story
You got a problem? Yo, she’ll splode it. At the Big Science after-party celebrating the capture of Splosion Man, a spill of champagne shorts out the safety protocols on the splosionatrix and from it emerges Ms. Splosion Man. The latest creation from Twisted Pixel Games, the creators of Splosion Man, The Maw, and Comic Jumper, Ms. Splosion man comes packed with fifty levels of single player and a separate fifty level co-op multiplayer campaign. Expanded map features, tons of unlockables, ghost replays, and countless other improvements make this the definitive edition for any splosion connoisseur.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated 2D cartoon art in clean side-scrolling frames, with laboratory corridors, factory floors and sunlit test chambers that feel like a retro-futuristic cartoon set. Explosions burst in cheerful bursts of colour and rubble, and the soundtrack is upbeat, poppy and loopy, with a playful bit of dance in the mix. The vibe is goofy, brash and high-energy, the kind of game to pick up for a quick arcade session or a loud evening with friends, and it turns into a shared mess in the co-op mode. Pacing is brisk: short levels, instant restarts, and a steady ramp of wall jumps, timing puzzles and boss fights that reward quick reflexes and a bit of showing off. The emotional register is light and irreverent, with a self-aware, pop-culture-savvy humour and a heroine who treats chaos as a party. Violence is cartoonish and bloodless; robots are blown apart and the explosions are loud but never gory or frightening. It suits anyone who wants a fast, cheeky, colourful platformer with a high score to chase and a lot of silly energy, rather than anything calm or slow.
