The story
A man falls in love with his childhood friend, but another friend is the one who reciprocates his feelings.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated Bollywood colour: primary reds, marigold yellows and sky blues in wide, sunlit frames, with lavish song sequences that break into choreographed dance in open courtyards, rooftops and sun-drenched streets. The mood is sweetly giddy and affectionate, with slapstick and broad physical comedy tumbling through a warm, high-energy rhythm that rarely slows. Melodic, bouncy film songs and a big orchestral score carry most of the feeling, and the dialogue sparkles with playful teasing between old friends. Emotionally it stays in a loving, lightly bittersweet register, following a set of tangled friendships and the awkwardness of hearts changing course, with the humour kept gentle and the characters sincere. Violence is absent; there is no gore, and any conflict stays verbal, comic or tearful rather than harsh. Sexual content is limited to kisses and romantic longing, nothing explicit. It suits a lively weekend evening, a comfort rewatch with friends, or a family night, and fits anyone wanting a joyful, musical romantic comedy with heart and no darkness.
