The story
Ninja Gaiden Sigma, stylized as Ninja Gaiden Σ, is an action-adventure game developed by Team Ninja for the PlayStation 3. It is an enhanced port of Ninja Gaiden, originally released on Xbox in 2004, and is the second expansion to the game after Ninja Gaiden Black. The game was released in the summer of 2007 to very positive reviews. In 2012, a port for the PlayStation Vita, titled Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus was released on the same day the console launched in Europe and North America.
What it’s like
Hard-edged and kinetic, with saturated night skies, rain-slick rooftops and crumbling Gothic temples rendered in glossy, high-contrast polygons that snap into motion the moment you press a button. The camera hangs close behind the hero, so every swing, leap and wall-run fills the frame, while the soundtrack leans on pounding electric guitar and taiko-tinged percussion that spikes with each enemy wave and drops to a tense hush between fights. Its violence is constant and stylised: blood sprays in bright arcs, limbs fly, and decapitations are frequent, though the tone stays cartoonishly bombastic rather than grim, and there is no sexual content. Fights build a rhythm of guard, counter and combo that rewards repetition, and the difficulty spikes sharply at boss encounters, which can feel punishing for newcomers. Best suited to players who want a sharp, intense evening of precision combat, replay-driven mastery and a kinetic, high-score chase, and less suited to anyone seeking calm or gentle play.
