The story

Slay the enemies in the silence of the moment. Run through the world of Shinobi full of monsters and ninja actions. Grab Oborozuki, the legendary sword, and slay evil once more. Your clan and the world are counting on you.

What it’s like

Hand-drawn 2D sprites with bold ink outlines and painted, layered backdrops give this game the crisp, storybook look of a classic Sega action title, with sharp silhouettes against misty mountain shrines, moonlit bamboo groves and crimson-lit fortresses. Lizardcube's animation is fluid and expressive, so every slash, wall-run and grapple has weight, and the palette shifts from cool blues and greys in quiet passages to fiery oranges when the monsters arrive. The soundtrack leans on taiko-like percussion and sparse shakuhachi, dropping away to near silence between fights, which gives the combat its rhythm. The vibe is tense, focused and stylish, a precise rush of blade work and then a held breath. Expect frequent, stylised sword violence against demons and ninja foes, with bloodless splashes and no gore to speak of, though the tempo is brisk and the difficulty can sting. It suits an evening session with a controller, for players who love demanding platforming and crisp, responsive combat over slow exploration or quiet drama.
