The story
A shopkeeper takes God to court when his shop is destroyed by an earthquake.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated Mumbai street colour gives way to the flat fluorescent wash of a courtroom, and the film moves between the two with the brisk energy of a stage farce that never quite leaves the theatre behind. Its look is bold and unfussy: crowded market lanes, gaudy shop signage, glowing shrine lamps and marigold garlands, cut with plenty of mid-shots and quick reaction close-ups that keep the comic exchanges snappy. The score leans on playful Bollywood-style melodies and sudden comic stings, and the rhythm is lively, with long courtroom sequences that trade barbs back and forth. Its tone is cheeky, warm and satirical, a comedy about faith and doubt that pokes at ritual and religious business while keeping its heart on ordinary people wrestling with belief. The emotional arc follows a stubborn, bruised man whose anger at the divine slowly softens into something more reflective. Violence is minimal, with a few slapstick moments and one brief, sombre scene of disaster; there is no gore and no sexual content. It suits a lively weekend watch or a light-hearted evening with friends, and is best for viewers who enjoy irreverent comedy about religion and are comfortable with a few heated arguments.
