The story
Longtime single friends, Ben and Alice, agree to be each other's respective plus one at every wedding they're invited to, during a busy summer of wedding fever.
What it’s like
Bright, sun-washed summer daylight, outdoor wedding lawns, string lights strung over reception tents, and the warm amber glow of hotel bars at night give this romantic comedy a breezy, easygoing look. The camera stays mostly conventional and unfussy, following two people through a loose run of ceremonies, toasts and dance floors, with handheld energy during the party scenes and calmer two-shots when the banter softens. The score is light and guitar-tinged, and the soundtrack leans on bright, upbeat pop that suits the cheerful chaos of a wedding season. Vibe: sunny, chatty, warm and a little bittersweet, the kind of film that suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a light date night, or an easy watch with a drink in hand. Pacing is brisk and dialogue-driven, with a comic rhythm built on quick back-and-forth and awkward social set pieces. Its emotional core is two old friends who have avoided commitment slowly confronting what they actually want from each other. Intensity is low: some drinking and sexual innuendo, mild language, no violence and no real darkness. It is for people who want a fun, funny romance with heart and nothing heavy.
