The story

Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition will include the full, original Red Dead Redemption game plus all free and paid downloadable content packs released to date, including the wildly popular Undead Nightmare single and multiplayer offerings, as well as all DLC originally released as pre-order content.

What it’s like

Sun-bleached frontier and dusty golden-hour quiet, with long sweeps of open desert, scrub and rolling grassland under a huge washed-out sky, and the slow orange glow of dusk settling over mesas and small towns. Dust hangs in the air, horses kick up grit, and campfire light flickers across weathered faces, while the score is a mournful, low-key blend of acoustic guitar, harmonica and sparse strings that swells during standoffs and falls back to wind, insects and distant coyotes between them. Its vibe is weathered, wistful and unhurried, a sprawling western that suits a long evening alone or a stretch of riding across the map with nothing to rush toward. Violence is frequent and often brutal, with gunfights, executions and grim bloodied aftermaths, plus a zombie-infested episode in Undead Nightmare that goes into horror-tinged gore. Dread and melancholy weigh more than spectacle, and the tone is serious and sombre rather than gentle. It is for players who want a vast, melancholic open world, a redemptive story of a man confronting his past, and a rewarding sense of place.
