The story

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Game of the Year Edition is a complete version of the game released in August 2016 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It includes the base game along with all post-launch content, including the two major expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, and all free DLCs.

What it’s like

Dusk-lit forests, rain-soaked villages and smoky taverns give this open-world RPG a painterly, earthy look: muted greens and greys, warm firelight in cramped interiors, and sweeping vistas where the sky turns bruise-purple over ruined keeps. Its soundscape leans on folk-inflected lutes, low cello drones and wind through reeds, with the occasional wet thud of combat. Combat is brisk and tactile, with sword strikes and monster-hunting rituals that feel weighty in the hands, and exploration rewards wandering: side quests unfold at a loose, unhurried pace, with a dry, bawdy humour cutting through the gloom. The mood is melancholic but warm, a dark-fantasy world where moral choices are morally murky rather than clean. Violence is frequent and bloody, with gore in fights and some grim creature designs, plus mature sexual content and innuendo; it is not gentle. It suits long evenings alone, a game to settle into over many sessions, and players who want a sprawling, character-driven fantasy world with grit and dark humour.
