The story
Hot dog Frank leads a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they're chosen to leave the grocery store.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated supermarket colours give way to a gleeful, hand-drawn-looking CGI world of aisles, cereal boxes and produce that moves with the cheerful bounce of a Pixar-style family film, and the contrast is the joke. The palette is candy-bright and the camera swoops and tracks through fluorescent aisles with the energy of a theme-park ride, while the sound is an overblown orchestral score that sets up expectations the film then gleefully smashes. Its vibe is crude, irreverent and raucously silly, best suited to a loud night with friends, a late-night laugh alone, or anyone who enjoys animation that refuses to behave. The pacing is brisk and escalating, building toward increasingly outrageous set pieces, and the emotional register swings between sincere camaraderie and profane gags, with a loose arc about a hopeful group confronting an uncomfortable truth. Intensity is high: explicit sexual content and frequent crude humour, graphic violence and gore played for comedy, strong language, and offensive jokes about race, religion and sexuality. Nothing here is gentle. It is made for adult audiences who want satirical, boundary-pushing animated comedy and are happy to be shocked.
