The story

The shocking murder of a journalist thrusts a leading crime reporter into a nexus of police, media and the Mumbai underworld as she fights for justice.

What it’s like

Cool, desaturated Mumbai in newsroom fluorescents and the sodium glow of night streets, with a restless, handheld camera that stays close to its reporters as they move between cramped offices, police stations and crowded city lanes. The palette leans on grey-blue and muted ochre, broken by the flicker of television screens and the warm amber of late-night chai stalls. Sound is layered and urban: traffic, phones ringing over one another, typewriter-quick dialogue, and a sparse, tense score that surfaces at the edges of scenes rather than swelling over them. The pace is brisk and sustained, built on investigation and tightening pressure rather than spectacle. Its mood is anxious and watchful, with a steady undercurrent of cynicism about power and the press. Violence is present and grim, with a killing at the outset and threats and menace throughout, but it is mostly implied or handled in tense, restrained scenes rather than graphic gore. Adult themes of corruption, intimidation and moral compromise run through it. It suits viewers who want a gripping, morally textured crime drama to follow across several evenings, especially those drawn to journalism stories and grounded thrillers.
