The story

Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.

What it’s like

Cold, grimy New York winter: night streets slick with sodium-orange light, subway tunnels and cramped apartments lit by harsh fluorescents and phone glow, and the bright, saturated reds of blood and costume set against muted blues and greys. The camera moves restlessly, with handheld chases through crowded halls and tight, claustrophobic close-ups during confrontations, while the Halloween-season set pieces, including a packed subway car, stretch tension into long, held silences broken by a jolting, familiar stab of score. Its vibe is brash, jittery and mean-spirited with a streak of gallows humour, the kind of movie to watch with friends on a loud October night rather than alone. Pacing is brisk and escalating, and the emotional core is about trauma and loyalty: a fractured found-family of college-age survivors bickering, bonding and doubting one another as they dig into who is behind the mask. The violence is frequent and graphic, with stabbings, blood-heavy gore and brutal kills, and there is strong profanity and tense peril throughout, though little sexual content. It suits fans of slasher sequels who want big set pieces, loud reactions and a sharp, self-aware edge.
