The story

Devil Survivor Overclocked is an enhanced port of Devil Survivor made exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS. The port features enhanced art, voice acting for almost every piece of dialogue, new demons and an extended story (8th Day).

What it’s like

Cool blue and steel-grey menus over a stark, Tokyo-at-night city where the palette shifts to crimson when demons break through, with anime portraits sliding in over static backdrops and the 3DS depth slider pushing the map layers apart like paper. The sound is a restless electronic score that pulses during battles and drops to a hush over quiet street scenes, with voice acting now covering nearly every line. Play moves on a clock: you walk the city through day and night, recruit allies, and fight turn-based battles on a grid, where each decision feeds a tightening, cyberpunk-tinged apocalypse. The tone is tense and brooding, with bursts of dread and moral unease, and the rhythm is brisk in combat but patient between chapters, when characters argue over what to do next. Violence is stylised and bloodless, with demons dissolving in flashes rather than gore, though deaths of companions and some hallucinatory horror sequences land hard. Sexual content is absent. It suits late-night sessions on a handheld, long train rides, and players who love tactical strategy, branching choices and a world where order and chaos are constantly at odds.
