The story

An HD Remaster of Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening - Special Edition, included in "Devil May Cry HD Collection." Devil May Cry 3 takes place before the events of the first game. In this installment, you can choose different close-combat styles like Swordmaster and Gunslinger, and it's up to you which style you decide to develop and improve on. This Special Edition lets you play as Dante's brother Vergil.

What it’s like

Gothic demon architecture rendered in saturated blues, blood reds and bone whites, with towering cathedral-like arenas and a stormy, sea-lashed island that the camera sweeps around in fluid, cinematic arcs. The soundtrack is driven by hard rock and industrial metal, all distorted guitars and pounding drums that swell with each fight. Its vibe is brash, cocksure and theatrical, a rowdy late-night adrenaline session rather than a quiet one. Combat is fast and combo-heavy, with each weapon style reshaping the rhythm of a fight, and the pacing alternates between frantic arena battles and slower stretches of exploration and puzzle-solving. Violence is constant and stylised: demons are cut apart in showers of colourful sparks and dark ichor, with bloody gore that is more operatic than grisly, and there is no sexual content. Horror is present in its monstrous design and gloomy atmosphere but reads as spectacle rather than dread. The emotional core is a cocky loner reckoning with a rivalry and a buried past with his brother. It suits players who want high-octane, showy action with a swaggering attitude and a dark fantasy edge, and it is a poor fit for anyone wanting something gentle or low-stakes.
