The story

Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening - Special Edition is a re-release of Devil May Cry 3 with gameplay changes and additional content. Among them, there is the possibility to play as Vergil on a separate save file.

What it’s like

Gothic stone halls and ruined cathedrals under a bruised, storm-dark sky, lit by hellfire oranges, cold moonlit blues and the flash of sword-steel, with stylized over-the-top cutscenes that cut between characters like a comic-book sequence. Heavy guitar and industrial rock drive the combat, and quieter, moody ambient tracks settle the exploration. Sessions suit a late-night session alone with headphones or a long stretch of focused play on a weekend. The pacing is relentless in fights and deliberate between them, with a chapter structure that rewards repetition and mastery. The emotional register is brooding and proud, centred on two brothers whose rivalry and bond are slowly exposed. Violence is constant and stylised: demons are sliced, shot and shattered in bursts of ichor and sparks, with some dismemberment and grim imagery, but no real gore or sexual content. Difficulty is high and unforgiving. Made for players who want stylish, punishing action with dark atmosphere, a strong soundtrack and a bit of gothic melodrama.
