The story
The coastal town of Bristol Cove is known for its legend of once being home to mermaids. When the arrival of a mysterious girl proves this folklore all too true, the battle between man and sea takes a very vicious turn as these predatory beings return to reclaim their right to the ocean.
What it’s like
Overcast coastal light and cool, salt-damp palettes give way to bursts of saturated teal and deep blue whenever the water takes over the frame, so the sea feels both beautiful and threatening. Camera work is mostly mobile and close, with handheld moments in tight town streets and dim interiors, and the score leans on pulsing synth and swelling strings that rise sharply during the underwater sequences. The mood is moody and romantic at its heart, shading into unease and a slow-building dread, with a young-adult sheen of teen romance and clan tension running through it. Violence is a real presence: attacks are sudden and bloody, with visible wounds and a few grisly deaths, though it stays more shock than sustained gore. Episodes move at a brisk, serialized pace, each ending on a hook. It suits a rainy evening, a weekend binge, or a late-night watch for viewers who enjoy folklore-driven fantasy with a bit of bite, and it is best avoided by anyone who wants something gentle or free of on-screen injury.
