The story

Space Rangers is a space combat strategy game where you control your own ship and eventually a fleet of ships to fight the evil alien race, Klissans. You are put in an open world to play as you please to achieve your goal.

What it’s like

Crisp 2D sprites drifting across a star map, with chunky pixel-art planets, glowing thruster trails and flat, bright colour against deep black space. The look is retro and tidy rather than photoreal: menus in plain panels, ship portraits in stiff, cartoonish frames, and dense text boxes that read like a logbook. The sound is a looping electronic score with clipped beeps and laser pops, and long stretches of quiet hum while your ship crosses the map. Pacing is unhurried and self-directed: you plan routes, trade cargo, mine asteroids and pick fights in turn-based skirmishes, with brief bursts of arcade-style shooting when a battle breaks out. The tone is light, cheerful and low-pressure, with a sense of steady progress as your single ship grows into a fleet, though the war against the Klissans gives a thin thread of stakes. Violence is cartoonish and bloodless, all explosions and sparks, with no gore and no sexual content. It suits a slow evening, a sit-down session with a cup of tea, or anyone who enjoys tinkering with a ship and building a small empire among the stars. It is for players who like open-ended space trading and strategy with an old-school, handmade charm.
