The story
The four friends Lukas, Julius, Gino and Sanchez are trying to survive the everyday life in Neukölln, Berlin between drugs, gangs, rap, violence and boredom. Until they are one day making a serious decision with serious consequences because of a dead certain plan.
What it’s like
Gritty, sun-bleached Berlin streets: wide shots of apartment blocks and concrete courtyards under hard summer light, with a restless handheld camera that stays close to four teenagers as they drift through stairwells, parks and cramped flats. The palette runs dusty ochre, grey and washed-out blue, and the sound is built from rap beats, distant traffic and sudden silences that feel heavy with what might happen next. Its vibe is restless and bleak, a mix of boredom and simmering menace, the kind of watch that suits a late evening alone rather than anything relaxed. The pacing is loose and wandering through long stretches of idle hanging-out before tightening into tense, fast-cut bursts. The emotional register stays hard and unsentimental, following teenage boys who are caught between loyalty, pride and the pull of easy money as their friendship is tested. Violence, drug use and crime appear regularly and can be sudden and harsh, with some brutal moments that land with real weight. This is for viewers who want a raw, unflinching portrait of youth on the edge, not comfort or gentleness.
