The story

Super Mario Bros. 3, the third entry in the Super Mario Bros. series and Super Mario franchise, sees Mario or Luigi navigate a nonlinear world map containing platforming levels and optional minigames and challenges. The game features more diverse movement options and new items alongside more complex level designs and boss battles.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated cartoon palettes with crisp pixel edges: sunlit grass and sky blue, sandy desert ochre, icy snowfields, dark underground blocks, and the glossy red and white of power-ups. The NES chiptune score is bouncy and brisk, with an overworld theme that sounds like a sunny road trip and a sudden shift into tense, staccato airship and fortress cues. Levels scroll in tight, readable sideways motion, the camera locked to the player with little shake, while the map screen drifts across a painted world of islands and pathways. The feel is playful and kinetic, with a light, springy jump and a satisfying flutter when the raccoon tail or flight suit lifts Mario into the air. Its vibe is bright, mischievous and busy, best suited to an afternoon of pick-up-and-play or a long evening of exploring side paths and secret rooms. Pacing is quick, with short levels, frequent bonus minigames and steady escalation toward larger boss fights. Violence is cartoonish: enemies are stomped or knocked away, with no blood and little threat beyond falls and fire. Ideal for players who want charming, low-stress challenge and a playful sense of discovery.
