The story
Ex-government operative Bryan Mills finds his life is shattered when he's falsely accused of a murder that hits close to home. As he's pursued by a savvy police inspector, Mills employs his particular set of skills to track the real killer and exact his unique brand of justice.
What it’s like
Hard-edged and jittery, with handheld camera work that shakes through cramped rooms and fast cutting that keeps the eye restless; the palette runs cold, all steel-blue dusk, sodium-orange streetlight and the washed-out fluorescent glare of police stations and morgues, with a sunny Los Angeles that looks more like a postcard than a place. Expect a pulsing, percussive score layered over engine noise, gunfire and bursts of crashing glass, with little room for quiet. The vibe is tense, grimy and relentless, a late-night watch when you want momentum rather than atmosphere. Violence is frequent and physical: fistfights, shootouts, car chases and a few brutal close-quarters beats, with some blood but no gore for its own sake; there is peril and a dark, paranoid undercurrent, and some emotional strain around family and grief. The arc follows a weary, capable ex-operative pushed back into action, his protective instincts sharpening as the walls close in. It suits viewers who want a gritty, fast-moving thriller with a hard-bitten lead and don't mind a predictable, adrenaline-first ride.
