The story

Jigsaw has disappeared. Along with his new apprentice Amanda, the puppet-master behind the cruel, intricate games that have terrified a community and baffled police has once again eluded capture and vanished. While city detectives scramble to locate him, Doctor Lynn Denlon and Jeff Reinhart are unaware that they are about to become the latest pawns on his vicious chessboard.

What it’s like

Harsh, grimy fluorescent light and sickly green-tinged interiors, with a palette of rust, bruised blues and blood red, shot in restless handheld close-ups that lurch through abandoned warehouses and sterile hospital corridors. The sound design leans on clanking metal, dripping water and sudden stings of score, while long stretches of tense near-silence let every breath and drag feel physical. Pacing is relentless and grim, cutting between a hunt across the city and a locked-room cat-and-mouse game that drags its captives through escalating, graphic torture, with much of the violence shown in close, uncomfortable detail. The vibe is bleak, sadistic and claustrophobic, the emotional register cold and punishing, following trapped people who fight to survive and a grieving man consumed by revenge. Intense and gory throughout, with frequent mutilation, suffocation and brutal violence, so it does not suit anyone wanting something gentle. Made for horror fans who want unflinching survival dread and a twisted moral puzzle, not a comfort watch.
