The story

Jimmy Neutron is the smartest kid in town. As a genius, Jimmy thinks most things can be solved with the invention of a new gizmo. But Jimmy usually takes the easy way out, and his backfiring gadgets result in comedic adventures.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated CGI with a cartoon sheen: primary colours, bouncy squash-and-stretch movement, and a retro-futurist town of rounded houses and gleaming gadgets. The camera moves briskly, with quick cuts, whip pans and exaggerated slapstick framing, while the score is a jaunty orchestral and electronic mix that never lets up. The vibe is busy, cheerful and mischievous, with a playful sense of invention that suits a weekday after-school screen, a silly family movie-night, or background chatter while doing homework. Intensity is low: the peril is cartoonish, with explosions, mechanical mishaps and gooey alien threats that are lightly comic rather than frightening, and nothing gory or cruel. Pacing is brisk and episodic, each episode built around a gadget that goes wrong and then gets set right, with a young inventor learning that bragging and shortcuts have consequences, alongside a loyal best friend and a patient family. It's made for children and for grown-ups who enjoy bright, kinetic, gently absurd cartoons.
