The story

The Binding of Isaac: Wrath of the Lamb is an official DLC expansion to The Binding of Isaac, which adds new Items, Rooms, Enemies, Bosses, and more.

What it’s like

Crude, hand-drawn scribbles on a dark brown basement backdrop, with blood, bile and bone rendered in flat, wet-looking reds and pallid greys. The camera stays fixed on a top-down room while the player's tiny crying child darts through doorways, and the whole screen can shudder with a sudden spray of gore or a grotesque boss sprite. Sound is a restless mix of scratchy, distorted chiptune loops, squelching hits and sudden stings of organ and choir that lend the caves a churchy, mournful edge. The vibe is grimy, sardonic and darkly funny, with a feverish, hungry rhythm: each run is a short, unpredictable scramble through randomly assembled rooms, with long quiet beats between frantic fights. Violence is constant but cartoonish: frequent blood, gore and bodily horror, plus religious imagery and themes of abuse and guilt treated with black humour, though nothing is sexually explicit. It suits late-night sessions with a bit of nerve, or anyone who enjoys twisted, punishing roguelikes and wants a stranger, more personal take on the genre. It is not gentle.
