The story
While working underground to fix a water main, Brooklyn plumbers—and brothers—Mario and Luigi are transported down a mysterious pipe and wander into a magical new world. But when the brothers are separated, Mario embarks on an epic quest to find Luigi.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated animation with a candy-colored palette: sunlit Mushroom Kingdom meadows, glowing green pipes, castles built from warm stone and banners, and a pixel-era nod in the Brooklyn sequences that shifts into lush, rounded 3D worlds. The camera moves briskly and often, sweeping through fast chases and game-style set pieces, with bursts of score that lean on bouncy synth and orchestral hits. The mood is buoyant and playful, a family-friendly fantasy with a gentle, goofy comic energy and a warm sibling-loyalty undertone. The pace rarely slows, so it suits a lively weekend afternoon with kids, a comfort rewatch, or a light, easy watch on a long-haul flight. Peril is cartoonish and fleeting, with slapstick bashes, mild menace from villains and a few fights, but no gore, no sexual content and nothing frightening for young viewers. It is for people who want colorful, upbeat fun with a nostalgic wink to the games and a sweet family core.
