The story

The Talos Principle is a philosophical first-person puzzle game from Croteam, the creators of the legendary Serious Sam series, written by Tom Jubert (FTL, The Swapper) and Jonas Kyratzes (The Sea Will Claim Everything).

What it’s like

Sun-warmed ruins under a deep blue sky, with clean white stone walls and lush green meadows that give way to rusted machinery and quiet, reflective water. Its first-person view is calm and unhurried, with sound built from soft wind, distant birdsong, the hum of ancient terminals, and a sparse, contemplative score that swells gently when a puzzle clicks into place. Laser beams, fans, and moving blocks are the puzzles, solved by thinking rather than reacting, and the pace is slow and deliberate, with long stretches of walking, looking, and wondering. The mood is wistful and cerebral, a melancholy curiosity about what it means to be alive, with an undertone of unease as fragments of text and voices hint at a larger world. Violence is absent; the only danger is a missed step or a tangled puzzle. It suits a rainy afternoon, a quiet evening alone, or anyone who enjoys thinking through problems at their own pace. It is for players who want philosophical depth, gentle challenge, and a world that rewards patient exploration.
