The story

A chilling anthology series featuring stories of people in terrifying situations inspired by true historical events.

What it’s like

Cold, grey-blue light and tight, claustrophobic framing dominate this anthology, with ice-choked Arctic horizons in one season and the dusty, sun-scorched barracks of a wartime internment camp in another. Its atmosphere is dread built slowly from creaking wood, howling wind, and long, silent takes in which the camera lingers on faces that are trying not to reveal fear. The score is sparse and low-register, letting ambient sound carry the unease. The gore is real and sometimes sudden, with graphic injuries, decay, and a disease that visibly ravages bodies, though the violence arrives in bursts rather than as constant spectacle. Expect a slow-burning, often bleak register: isolated groups under pressure, trust fraying, and characters who are pushed toward unthinkable choices, with supernatural and folkloric elements woven into historical hardship. It suits a patient, dark evening when you want immersive, atmospheric horror with serious period weight. It is not gentle, and it is best for viewers who can sit with sustained tension, graphic violence, and grim outcomes.
