The story
White Knuckle is a first person speed climbing game. Ascend through the guts of SUB-STRUCTURE 17 using precision movement mechanics. Sharp reflexes and resource management will take you to the highest peaks under ten thousand meters of concrete and decay.
What it’s like
Cold, grey-blue concrete under sickly sodium-yellow work lights, with rust-brown pipes and wet-black shafts stacked into a vertical underground that feels colossal and claustrophobic at once. The first-person camera is tight and kinetic: wall-runs, ledge grabs and mantles unfold in quick, physical bursts, and the view sways and shudders with every hard landing. Sound is mostly low drones, distant machinery groaning, dripping water and the thin wind of a long drop, with dark ambient pads swelling when a climb tightens. Its vibe is tense, grimy, and relentlessly forward-moving, a brittle sort of focus rather than comfort. Pacing runs in short attempts and sharp restarts, so each run feels like a fresh gamble against falling. Intensity is moderate: a bleak, decayed world with dread and occasional peril, but no gore or sexual content, and the danger is mostly about falls and failure rather than graphic violence. It suits players who want precise, high-tension movement in a moody, subterranean setting, especially late at night with headphones on, and who enjoy the satisfaction of mastering a difficult route one clean run at a time.
