The story

A group of friends take refuge in a deserted sanatorium after they are left stranded in a snowstorm. Later, the place becomes a death trap when man-eating cannibals surround them.

What it’s like

Cold, desaturated winter exteriors and dim, grimy interiors give this slasher sequel its bleak, claustrophobic look: snow-blanketed woods, a flickering motel-style setting, and the dingy corridors of an abandoned sanatorium lit mostly by flashlight beams and weak practical lamps. Camera work is fairly conventional, with tight handheld moments during chases and static framing when the characters hole up and wait. The score leans on synth stingers and low drones, punctuated by sudden loud cues rather than sustained atmosphere. Pacing alternates between slow, uneasy stretches of dread and abrupt bursts of violence. The intensity is high: gore is frequent and graphic, with cannibalism, impalings and killings shown in close detail, alongside cruelty and some sexual content. The mood is grim, nihilistic and mean-spirited, with little warmth between its characters, who are mostly strangers pushed into survival. It suits viewers who want a cold, nasty, forest-bound slasher and are comfortable with unrelenting brutality, not those seeking anything gentle or cozy.
