The story

Jen and a group of friends set out to hike the Appalachian Trail. Despite warnings to stick to the trail, the hikers stray off course—and cross into land inhabited by The Foundation, a hidden community of mountain dwellers who use deadly means to protect their way of life.

What it’s like

Cold, overcast daylight over dense green Appalachian forest gives way to murky, shadowed woods, with handheld camera work that keeps the hikers close and unsettled. The palette runs muddy greens, greys and rust, with the rural compound scenes lit by warm, flickering interiors that feel closed-off and wrong. Sound leans on wind through trees, crunching boots, and a pulsing, percussive score that spikes during chases. The vibe is claustrophobic backwoods dread, a slasher in the woods with a clammy, isolated edge. Pacing is brisk, with long stretches of tension broken by sudden, graphic violence: traps, impalements and bloody kills that land hard and often. Emotionally it tracks a group of friends turning on each other under pressure, then a survivor's stubborn fight for escape and revenge. Intensity is high: frequent gore, explicit deaths and menace throughout, with some sexual content and cruelty. Not gentle at all. Made for horror fans who want a lean, nasty survival chase and enjoy outsider-community creepiness.
