The story

A vast world awaits in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the next game in the acclaimed RPG series from developer Monolithsoft. Players will step into the roles of protagonists Noah and Mio amid turmoil between the hostile nations of Keves and Agnus. Six characters hailing from those nations will take part in a grand tale with “life” as its central theme. Explore a new world that will connect the futures of both Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

What it’s like

Sweeping open fields under wide, bright skies give way to rust-colored ruins, sunlit cliffs, and cloud-banked mountain passes, with the anime cutscenes framed in dramatic low angles and warm, saturated color. The two warring nations look distinct: one a gleaming, mechanized realm of clean lines and brisk light, the other a weathered, war-scarred land of dust and dimmed skies. Orchestral swells and soaring vocal tracks carry the big moments, while quieter exploration tracks let the wind and birdsong fill the gaps. Combat is fast and kinetic, with mechs and party members striking in rapid, glowing sequences. The vibe is epic yet wistful, a sprawling adventure that rewards long evenings and weekend immersion. Its violence is frequent and fairly intense, with battlefield casualties, mournful deaths, and occasional graphic wounds, though it stops short of gore. The emotional register leans heavily toward grief, loyalty, and hard-won hope, with characters slowly coming to terms with what their lives are worth. It suits players who want a long, cinematic, story-led RPG with a melancholy streak and a lot of room to wander.
