The story

Xenoblade Chronicles X is an action role-playing video game and part of the Xeno series, serving as a spiritual successor to Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii. Similar to the original, the game is an open-world role-playing video game with an emphasis on exploration. Traveling can take place on foot or in large humanoid robots, approximately four times the height of the average playable character, called "Skells" ("Dolls" in the Japanese version), that the player may opt to control. The Skells can fly, traverse water, and transform into vehicles such as motorcycles or tanks. Aerial battles will also take place in the game.

What it’s like

Wide, sweeping vistas of alien terrain under shifting skies: bright alien daylight washing over lush valleys, violet dusk bleeding into a glowing night, and a dense, colourful polygonal style that makes every hilltop and forest feel hand-built and vast. The soundscape pairs a sweeping orchestral score with ambient wind, creature calls and the clank and whine of giant mechs crossing open ground. Movement is unhurried; the pleasure lies in wandering, climbing to a high ridge, and leaping into the air in a towering robot to see the world unfold below. Tone is wondering and adventurous, with a melancholy undercurrent of displacement and a quiet, slow-building sense of belonging among a scattered human colony. Its intensity is moderate: frequent creature combat, some blood-free fighting and dramatic battle sequences, but no gore and little cruelty, with danger kept at a fantastical distance. It suits long evenings of unhurried exploration, a weekend of sightseeing across an alien world, or a comfort-of-the-open-road session. It is for players who want sprawling, self-paced discovery, a sense of being small in a huge landscape, and the thrill of piloting machines through open skies.
