The story
Inspired by legendary folklore rooted in Arunachal Pradesh, Bhediya tells the story of Bhaskar, a man who gets bitten by a mythical wolf and begins to transform into the creature himself. As Bhaskar and his ragtag buddies try to find answers, he is worried that the monster in him will wipe out human existence in the local town.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated daylight over the forests and hill roads of Arunachal Pradesh gives way to lantern-lit village nights, with the camera staying close and comic, often hand-held in the rough-and-tumble scenes and widening to show green valleys and misty ridgelines when the wolf roams. The palette runs warm and earthy, with mud, timber, and sodden greenery, and the creature sequences lean on practical-feeling textures and shadow rather than gore. Sound is a playful mix of pounding percussion, folk-inflected music, and sudden stings of eerie silence before the next joke lands. The vibe is goofy, affectionate creature comedy: light dread with a steady undercurrent of laughter, the kind of film that suits a lazy weekend evening, a group watch, or a comfort rewatch with friends. Pacing is brisk and cheerful, with broad physical humour and banter carrying most scenes, and its emotional thread follows a reluctant, good-hearted man learning to accept something frightening inside himself while his loyal friends rally around him. Violence is present through creature attacks and some blood, but it stays cartoonish and brief rather than grisly, and the scares are mild jump-moments. It is best for viewers who want horror seasoned with humour, not those seeking gentle, violence-free viewing or deep atmosphere.
