The story

Take a peek at Pandora from behind the menacing eyes of Krieg, the Psycho Bandit, an all-new character and the 6th playable class in Borderlands 2. You’ve fought against them as enemies, now use that aggressive energy on the vault hunter’s side. Slice, dice, light yourself on fire and blow things up – taking damage was never so rewarding – or so much fun!

What it’s like

Gritty, saturated wasteland under a sun-bleached orange sky, with dust hanging in the air and the bright, cartoonish gore of Borderlands' cel-shaded style. Gunfire, explosions and fire flare in loud, colourful bursts against drab rust-brown canyons and scrap-metal ruins, while the soundtrack swings between twangy desert rock and the hysterical, chattering voice work of the characters. The vibe is loud, unhinged and darkly comic, the kind of mayhem you dive into for a late-night blast or a co-op session with friends. Pacing is relentless: fights start almost as soon as they end, and the pleasure lies in the escalating chaos rather than any quiet interlude. Intensity is high. Violence is constant and cartoonishly graphic, with blood spray, dismemberment and self-immolation played for laughs, and it lands as slapstick rather than grim dread. The emotional register is manic and gleefully crude, with Krieg's rage-fuelled cruelty softened by absurd humour. This is for players who want over-the-top shooting, a stylised world full of noise and colour, and a protagonist who revels in being a nightmare.
