The story
Eight years after seemingly destroying the killer doll, teen Andy Barclay is placed in a military school, and the spirit of Chucky returns to renew his quest and seek vengeance after being recreated from a mass of melted plastic.
What it’s like
Harsh fluorescent light and grimy institutional corridors give way to sun-bleached Chicago summer exteriors and the dim, overlit gloom of a military academy's barracks, with a mid-1990s glossy-but-cheap digital sheen that reads as slick rather than textured. Camera work is competent and straightforward, favouring conventional shot-reverse-shot and quick cuts during the kills, while the score leans on brassy stings, synth pulses and bursts of Halloween-night sound design that spike hard against stretches of ordinary school-yard quiet. The vibe is mischievous and rowdy, a campy late-night slasher with a wink, best suited to a Halloween watch, a noisy group night, or a comfort rewatch for fans of 1980s-90s killer-toy horror. Violence is frequent and often gory: stabbings, impalements, explosions and a few brutal set pieces, though it stays cartoonish and tongue-in-cheek rather than bleak, with some mild profanity and sexual innuendo. The arc follows a traumatised teen who must face the doll that haunted his childhood, with the emotional throughline mostly a playful, pulpy push toward confrontation. It is for horror fans who want gleeful gore, a little humour and a doll that refuses to stay down.
