The story

Delivering a visceral WWII gaming experience, Company of Heroes redefines RTS by bringing the sacrifice of heroic soldiers, war-ravaged environments, and dynamic battlefields to life. This legacy version also grants access to the latest version of COH, just called "Company of Heroes".

What it’s like

Company of Heroes has a gritty, muddy, smoke-choked look: drab olive and grey palettes broken by orange muzzle flashes and burning farmhouses, rain-slick streets, snow-dusted forests in winter campaigns, and a constant haze of dust and debris after each barrage. The camera hovers at a high, tactical angle over the battlefield, so units read as small figures moving across shell-cratered fields, while close zooms reveal soldiers hunkering behind hedgerows and sandbags. The sound design carries much of the weight, with rattling machine-gun fire, the crump of artillery, glass shattering, and orchestral swells that rise and drop with the fighting. Its vibe is tense, sombre and tactical, best suited to a focused evening at the desk or a long session where you want to plan and react. Pacing is brisk and demanding, with pressure building as territory is contested and reinforcements are weighed against losses, and the emotional register leans toward grim respect for ordinary soldiers under strain. Violence is constant but abstract at this scale: infantry fall and vehicles explode, with blood and bodies largely kept small and unsettling rather than graphic. It suits players who enjoy historical WWII warfare, real-time tactics, and atmospheric, stressful strategy rather than anything gentle.
