The story

Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge combines thrilling aerial combat with the swashbuckling style of a Hollywood action-adventure movie. Set in an alternate 1930s world of gunship diplomacy and sinister intrigue, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge lets gamers pilot powerful aircraft against nefarious air pirates and behemoth war zeppelins. As the daring air pirate Nathan Zachary, leader of the infamous Fortune Hunters, players take off on a high-flying adventure, filled with daring escapes and damsels in distress.

What it’s like

Sun-bleached skies, sweeping canyons, and clouds lit a warm amber give this game a pulpy 1930s adventure look, with polygonal aircraft that gleam against wide open horizons. Its soundtrack leans into swashbuckling brass and adventure-serial bombast, while cannon fire and engine roar fill the cockpit. The vibe is breezy, cheeky, and nostalgic, like a Saturday matinee serial you can dive into for an hour. Dogfights and low-level chases over mesas and harbours give it a fast, arcade rhythm, with the flight controls forgiving enough to stay playful rather than punishing. Intensity is moderate: frequent explosions and aerial gunfire against enemy planes and zeppelins, with no gore, and romance stays light and comic. It suits a weekend afternoon, a comfort replay, or anyone wanting joyful, low-pressure action with a wink. It is best for players who enjoy flight games that favour spectacle and swagger over realism, and who like their heroes charming, a little reckless, and always landing on their feet.
