The story

Chulbul Pandey invites a fresh trouble when he kills the brother of a notorious politician and the former swears to wreak havoc in his life.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated small-town India in full sun: dusty lanes, mustard fields, tractor-painted trucks, marigold garlands and loud pink-and-yellow costumes, all shot in broad, flat daylight with plenty of wide establishing frames and quick zooms into a grinning face. The song sequences are the heart of it, with big choreographed crowds, glossy digital colour and a bombastic Hindi film score full of dhol beats, brass stabs and synth swells, while the action scenes lean on slow-motion punches, hero shots and exaggerated stunts rather than grit. The mood is cheeky, swaggering and overblown, a broad masala-comedy ride with a tough-talking cop who is more showman than brooder. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with gags and musical breaks stacked on top of each other, and the hero's arc is simply a man who refuses to be intimidated and enjoys every provocation. Violence is frequent and stylised: fistfights, gunfire and a few bloody moments, but played for swagger, not horror, and with no real sense of dread. Sexual content is limited to flirtation and romantic songs. Best for fans of Bollywood spectacle and crowd-pleasing action who want loud, fun escapism on a lazy weekend.
