The story
‘Devotion’ is a first-person atmospheric horror game set in the 1980s Taiwan. The story centers around a seemingly ordinary family of three that lived in an old apartment complex. Explore the nostalgic house in the 80s where religion plays a significant role in their daily life. When one day the same house that once filled with joy and love had turned into a hell-like nightmare, and by venturing in the haunted and confined space, each puzzle leads you closer to the mysteries nested deep inside.
What it’s like
Sickly yellow lamplight pooling across cramped apartment corridors, red paper lanterns and drifting incense haze, faded wallpaper and sepia-washed rooms rendered with a grainy, analogue softness. Sound does most of the work: long stretches of near silence, a low ambient drone, creaking floorboards, and distant static from an old television, broken by sudden stingers. Set in a 1980s Taiwanese housing block, it moves at the pace of careful exploration, with puzzles that slow you down in rooms heavy with household shrines and devotional objects. The vibe is oppressive and mournful, a claustrophobic unease that builds rather than peaks. Intensity is high: frequent jump scares, disturbing and grotesque imagery, some gore and violence, and sustained dread around a family in crisis, with implied harm to children. Not gentle. It suits late-night solo play with headphones on, and fans of slow-burn atmospheric horror who want folklore-tinged dread and a sense of place.
