The story

Based on the BFG Edition, this release features enhanced graphics, better audio with more horror effects, a checkpoint save system, and support for 3D displays and HMDs. The game also includes the previous expansion Resurrection of Evil and a new single-player expansion pack called The Lost Mission. However, things like multiplayer and the inclusion of Ultimate Doom and Doom II have been removed.

What it’s like

Dark, claustrophobic corridors lit by flickering overhead lamps, hard red emergency glow, and the cold blue flare of a flashlight cutting through gloom; the palette is industrial greys and rust with blood-bright accents. The first-person view stays close and tense, with metal walkways, grated floors and Mars base interiors rendered in sharp, glossy detail after the BFG-style upgrade. Sound does much of the work: a low, constant hum of machinery, distant metallic clanks, and sudden stings that spike the heart, with the demonic growls and gunfire filling the room. Vibe: oppressive, atmospheric dread with bursts of frantic action. The pacing is methodical, punctuated by jump scares and tight ambushes that demand watchfulness and ammo conservation. Intensity is high: frequent gore, violent close-quarters combat with zombies and demons, and relentless fear rather than gentle comfort. Suited to late-night solo sessions with headphones on, for players who want a grim, classic survival-horror shooter with a sense of isolation and creeping menace.
