The story
The sixth chapter of Cosmos in the Lostbelt. Chaldea is alerted to a danger that will destroy the planet if left unchecked, and they arrive in the British Lostbelt, home to a wide array of faerie races. When the crew is separated soon after landing, the Master meets a local faerie named Artoria Caster as well as Oberon, a Servant from Proper Human History. Meanwhile, rumors of the Child of Prophecy's arrival begin to spread, threatening the High Queen Morgan's rule. As the protagonist and Mash explore Britain in their separate ways, they begin to unearth the ugly truths that lay the foundation of this twisted Lostbelt. Previous Chapter: Heian-kyō Next Chapter: Tunguska Sanctuary
What it’s like
Lush, storybook fantasy with painted pastoral backdrops in deep greens, silver mist and dappled woodland light, where ornate, gilt-edged fae courts sit against sunlit meadows and shadowy groves. Character portraits sit over the scenes in the Type-Moon visual-novel style, and the stylised combat effects flare with bright bursts of colour during fights. The soundtrack leans on sweeping orchestral and choral swells, with quieter, wistful piano and strings when the story slows. The pace is unhurried and dialogue-driven, with long stretches of reading punctuated by sudden set pieces. Tone moves from whimsical and wondering to uneasy and melancholy as the cheerful surface of the fae world begins to crack, and the emotional arcs centre on loyalty, identity and the cost of a bargain. Violence is stylised and present in battle, with some dark, unsettling reveals and cruelty in the backstory, but it is not graphic or gory. Suited to a long evening session, or to players who love fairy-tale mythology, rich character drama and the grand, operatic feel of the Fate universe.
