The story
Super-assassin John Wick returns with a $14 million price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. After killing a member of the shadowy international assassin’s guild, the High Table, John Wick is excommunicado, but the world’s most ruthless hit men and women await his every turn.
What it’s like
Saturated neon and hotel-lobby amber give way to stark desert whites in this sequel, shot with long, deliberately choreographed takes that let fight geometry play out in full body. Its palette runs from wet Manhattan blacks and rain-slick reflections to Casablanca's sun-bleached tile and the flat glare of the Sahara, while a pulsing synth score and thudding percussion keep the rhythm driving even through quieter stretches. Gunfire and blade work are frequent, stylised and often brutal, with bodies falling in heavy, abrupt impacts, though the gore stays comparatively restrained. Its tone sits between cold stoicism and dry, deadpan humour, and its emotional arc is a lone, grievously wounded man sinking deeper into a world that will not let him stop. It suits a late-night watch with the lights low and the volume up, or a comfort rewatch for fans of precise, cinematic action. It is not for anyone seeking something gentle: violence is constant, intense and central.
